Tracy Little League Minor AAA Braves vs Phillies scrimmageTracy Little League Minor AAA Braves vs Phillies Scrimmage
In my past sports photography life I covered pro-level type sports and sporting events. Even though people would die to cover a major sporting event, one of my favorite thing to do is cover little league games and high school games. Why? The access. Sure covering high action sports is fun and entertaining but slowing it down and getting the access to get creative is much more rewarding...well at least to me. I find it funny how some people find photographing little league games and high school game degrading or taking a step backwards but to me those people don't have the drive and passion for sports photography as others do. Another perk about covering little league games ( aside if your own kid is on the team :-D ) is that there is no deadlines. Covering major events so long you get more in the grove of just getting stuff out so its a nice change of pace. The image above i like because its different...the shadow lines are so crisp but the image was so soft. Baseball photography is a bit tricky though. If you think about it...pro's have A LOT of downtime so kids are no exception...if anything it's even slower as at this age they are still learning (kids are about 9-10) so the best opportunity to get great photos and have free range is during warm-ups. Dugouts can be a great place to get images as well. Since this was a scrimmage there was not a lot of emotion but still can get some nice images. You can find some interesting detail images as well. After I had a good amount of images from other aspects of the game I made sure to get some action shots. I was mostly there for my son so you can imagine waiting for only one person to spring into action is kinda like finding a needle in the haystack.
